Employment/Volunteer Opportunities

Herts Baseball Club’s growth and development since it was founded in 1996, has been possible thanks to its talented, energetic and hard working members, volunteers and officials. We are building something very special and we welcome anyone who wants to be part of the Herts Baseball Family. 
 
The following is a list of volunteer and employment opportunities with Herts Baseball Club.  The opportunities listed below are unpaid, unless stated otherwise.

TREASURER

  • Maintain the Club’s financial records. (Note: The volume of transactions is going up and the Club is hoping to make use of accounting software to ease the burden);
  • Prepare and submit annual financial statements;
  • Prepare Budget;
  • Prepare and present quarterly financial reports to the Board;
  • Keep the Board updated about outstanding membership fees and other financial issues;
  • Oversee and put suitable financial and control structure in place for various departments carrying out financial transactions;
  • Issue/authorise payments and act as one of the bank account signatories.

SPONSORSHIP MANAGER

  • Oversee all Club Sponsorship Operations;
  • Identify products and services which the Club can offer to businesses:
    • Sponsorship packages
    • Corporate Softball packages
    • Online Advertising
    • Signage at Venue
    • Community initiatives
  • Prepare a Club Commercial Prospectus with details of commercial and other opportunities and packages for businesses;
  • Contact potential customers/sponsors.

SOCIAL NETWORKING MANAGER

  • Manage the Club’s Facebook account
  • Manage the Club’s Twitter account
  • Explore options to use Facebook and Twitter technology to feed content, news, videos, announcements etc from the club’s other online platforms
  • Consider ways of keeping the Twitter and Facebook followers involved and visiting the sites.
  • Communication with our Twitter and Facebook followers. 

 TV CHANNEL CREW (VIDEO) 

The Club now has its own TV Channel which can be viewed via the internet and we are looking to add more and more programming in the coming months and years. The following are some initial ideas.
 
·         Film pre-game and post-game interviews
·         Edit them using video software
·         upload on the TV Channel
 
REPORTER
·         Writing a League Roundup report within 48 hours after the end of the games
·         Reports can be as short as a few paragraphs
·         Previous journalistic experience is not necessary
·         You can interview the Manager and players and include quotes in your articles (this is optional)
·         You can write the occasional editorial article to promote/build-up a specific game/event (this is optional)
·         Your materials will be published on the Herts Baseball Newswire and possibly regional media, if they pick up on it.
·         If more than one reporter volunteers, then the reporters can alternate week-after-week.
 
PHOTOGRAPHER
·         Take photos at Little League events
·         Upload them on the club website (Flickr)
 
HEAD COACH / ASSISTANT COACH
·         Oversee training sessions and games of the Little League team;
·         Co-ordinate activities with the other LL team coaches, umpires, scorers within the LL structure;
·         Ensure that all LL games/events in which your team is involved in are organised to the highest standard. This includes:
o   equipment provision and care
o   Determine team lineup/substitutions and in-game coaching decisions
o   Pre-game warm-up
o   Pre-game infield/outfield drills
o   Pre-game batting practice
·         Act as a good example for the Club’s young players;
·         Maintain and promote the Club’s reputation, team and club unity, fairness, fair play, respect for opponents, officials, fans etc.
·         Refrain from smoking, consuming alcohol during LL events etc.
 
UMPIRE
·         Officiate league games
·         Ensure that rules of the game are adhered to
 
SCORER
·         Receiving the team line-up cards from both team managers.
·         Entering the lineup details in the handheld computer.
·         Scoring every play as it happens during the game. This is a simple process of tapping on the screen of the handheld computer and each play is recorded with 2 or 3 touches of the screen.
·         Record substitutions or position changes (managers confirm these to the scorer)
·         Full training on the hand-held computer will be provided
 
SCOREBOARD OPERATOR
(this role can be carried out by the Scorekeeper or it can be a separate person)
·         Display the following on the scoreboard:
o   runs scored in each inning
o   total runs, hits and errors
 
RETAIL DEPARTMENT
·         Maintain record of the Club Concession Stand stock
·         Re-stock by making purchases from suppliers (Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, TESCO, COSTCO etc)
·         Set up concession stand on Little League days;
·         Sell concession stand products (hot dogs, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, hot and cold drinks etc)
·         Sell Club Shop merchandise
·         Put concession stand back in storage
 
GROUNDS CREW
Note: Grounds Crew duties can include pre-game or post-game or BOTH if volunteer is available for both.
·         Pre-game duties
o   Set up bases, team equipment, scoreboards, outfield an dother fencing, benches, (help with concession stand)
·         Post-game duties
o   Put down and back into storage all of the items listed abaove. 

WEBSITE ASSISTANT

  • Oversee website content integrity form a design perspective;
  • Design and update Club website when necessary;
  • Coordinate with other Club departments/operations to prepare website contents;
  • Maintain backup of website contents;
  • Administer website users.

FUNDRAISING MANAGER

  • Oversee all Club Fundraising Operations;
  • Communicate and Co-ordinate fundraising activities and procedures with volunteers and other club departments;
  • Act as / appoint / delegate as follows:
    • Fundraising Treasurer;
    • Fundraising Events Co-ordinator;
    • Concessions Stand Manager / stock control / purchasing etc. 

STATISTICS MANAGER

  • Maintain and publish team and player statistics;
  • Gather and publish historical team and player stats.
  • Keep backup of stats data.

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

  • The volunteer coordinator is the point of contact for all members and non-members who are interested to volunteer in a particular role, event etc.
  • To keep a record of volunteers (contact details etc)
  • To act as an alternative contact to the Welfare Officer.
  • To receive and record complaints or grievances of volunteers, including any complaints about the Welfare Officer, etc.
  • The Volunteer Coordinator would be required to provide: Landline phone; Mobile; An address for correspondence.

RECRUITMENT MANAGER

  • Act as the contact person for all enquiries from potential new members;
  • Provide details to potential new members about how to become a member and the upcoming events which they can attend (or a change of scheduled events) etc. 
  • Respond to email, telephone or other enquiries from potential new members in a timely manner;
  • Advise new members to register with the club online
  • Ensure that all players are rostered in accordance with BBF requirements
  • Other duties which may arise as part of the Club’s recruitment procedures.

CLUB SHOP MANAGER

The role of the Club Shop Manager is to administer Club Shop operations, including:

  • Receive sales orders from customers;
  • Place purchase orders with suppliers;
  • Stock control and re-order;
  • Co-ordinate operations with Club Treasurer and other relevant departments.
  • Update squad numbers (used, available, retired etc)
  • Other duties which may arise as part of the administration of the Club Shop operations.

GROUNDS MANAGER

  • Oversee Grovehill Ballpark and other club facilities and their maintenance;
  • Prepare a field maintenance plan for the year (staff, equipment and material requirements, budget etc)
  • Appoint and co-ordinate grounds maintenance staff at each of the adult teams and the Little League;
  • Provide field maintenance staff with checklists and other guidance for the maintenance tasks which have to be carried out.

PURCHASING MANAGER

  • Maintain record of equipment items and other assets owned by the club
  • Plan purchasing requirements
  • Obtain quotes from at least 3 suppliers for every new purchase (where applicable)
  • Place orders
  • Report transactions to Treasurer

SOFTBALL LEAGUE COMMISSIONER

  • Oversee all Softball League operations
  • Issue, maintain and publish Softball League Rules, Schedule, Results, Standings, player registrations.
  • Coordinate Softball Team Managers
  • Organise and Coordinate Softball League Game Days:
    • Volunteers to set up venue
    • Umpires
    • Provision of equipment, maintenance and care
